The Jersey Devil has remained seated as the mascot of the New Jersey Pine Barrens since 1735. Said to be the 13th (unwelcome) child of Mother Leeds, upon it's birth she shouted "Let this one be the Devil!". The perfect baby morphed into a hideous Jabberwock-type creature and whipped everyone on the face with his tail on his way out the chimney and into the vast Pine Barrens, where he would reign and terrorize people and animals for nearly 300 years now!
